OKC West livestock sales reportThe OKC West Livestock Market Inc., El Reno, Okla., reported receipts of 6,042 head Sept. 10, compared to 2,295 head last week and 5,253 head last year, according to the USDA-Oklahoma Department of Agriculture Market News, Oklahoma City, Okla. Compared to last week, feeder steers and heifers were steady to $2 lower. Demand remains good with good participation among buyers. Steer and heifer calves were mostly steady. Demand was good for calves with several farmer buyers participating. Weather remains cool and wet, thus wheat planting has yet to begin in this area. Quality was plain to average with several Brahman cross cattle in the mix. Weigh-ups were average to gaunt. The supply consisted of 63% over 600 pounds, 28% under 600 pounds, 9% cows and bulls. The total included 36% heifers. Slaughter cows were steady to $3 higher. Slaughter bulls were mostly $2 higher. Packer demand was good despite the large run. Heavy rains and flooding are predicted for the next several days. Packers are wanting to fill their needs in case movement is restricted by rising waters. A total of 529 cows and bulls sold with 52% going to packers.
