Newell sheep sales reportSt. Onge Livestock Co., Ltd., Newell, S.D., reported receipts of 1,822 head Sept. 4, compared to 1,203 head last week and 2,789 head last year, according to the USDA-South Dakota Department of Agriculture Market News, Sioux Falls, S.D. Compared to last week's sale, feeder lambs sold steady. Slaughter ewes sold steady to $1 lower. Buyer attendance was moderate, with moderate demand. The supply consisted of 7% slaughter lambs, 22% slaughter ewes, and 71% feeder lambs. Slaughter lambs: Shorn, Good 1 to 2, 26 head, 90 lbs., 83.50 blackface. Wooled, Good and Choice 1 to 2, 35 head, 57 lbs., 96.00; 66 to 67 lbs., 93.50 to 93.75 (93.67); 9 head, 96 lbs., 86.50; 5 head, 134 lbs., 89.25. Slaughter ewes: Good 2 to 3, fleshy, 129 head, 155 lbs., 21.25; 164 to 165 lbs., 22.00; 19 head, 204 lbs., 17.75. Cull and Utility 1 to 2, thin to medium fleshed, 79 head, 145 lbs., 16.00. Cull 1, thin, 9 head, 130 lbs., 4.50; 5 head, 172 lbs., 7.50 blackface. Feeder lambs: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 84 to 86 lbs., 94.25 to 96.00 (95.31); 91 to 98 lbs., 91.75 to 98.00 (94.99); 101 to 108 lbs., 93.00 to 97.25 (95.12); 51 head, 117 lbs., 94.50.
