New AgriLife Extension sheep and goat assistant namedTexas Jessup "Jess" Clayton Yeaman was named the Texas AgriLife Extension Service's state sheep and goat assistant effective Sept. 2. Yeaman is headquartered at the Texas AgriLife Research and Extension Center at San Angelo. Dr. Frank Craddock, AgriLife Extension state sheep and goat specialist, is Yeaman's supervisor. "I'm very happy to have Jess join me in conducting AgriLife Extension's sheep and goat educational efforts across Texas," Craddock said. "He has a strong background in the production side of the industry, but he also has a lot of show-ring and youth program experience which will serve him well, as the youth educational component is a key element of his job." Yeaman earned a bachelor's degree in animal science from Texas A&M University at College Station in May. He is currently pursuing studies toward a master's degree at Angelo State University. While attending A&M, he served as facilities manager for the animal science department's Louis Pearce Pavilion, which provides a venue for many livestock related seminars, training sessions and clinics. Yeaman has worked extensively in his family's Rocksprings ranching interests and has graded mohair for Prior Varga Wool and Mohair there. He also has served as a student intern with the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo. Yeaman's many honors and awards include San Antonio Livestock Exposition High Individual Wool Judging Scholarship, Texas Farm Bureau Young Farmers and Ranchers Scholarship, 4-H Opportunity Award, Texas Sheep and Goat Raisers Hill Country Chapter Scholarship, Howard Wyman Sheep Leadership Workshop-Texas representative, and State 4-H Roundup Wool Judging Contest High Individual. 9/15/08 Date: 9/11/08 Advertisement
