McAlester livestock sales report

The McAlester Union Livestock Market, McAlester, Okla., reported receipts of 2,800 head Sept. 9, compared to 1,400 head last week and 2,465 head last year, according to the Oklahoma Department of Agriculture-USDA Market News, Oklahoma City, Okla.

Compared to last week, steer and heifer calves were $2 to $4 higher. Feeder steers were steady, with exception of those at 600 to 700 pounds that sold $2 lower. Feeder heifers were steady to $2 higher. Good attendance of buyers and active trade. Cattle were in thin to medium flesh, few fleshy. Fewer attractive cattle were in trade. Receipts included 42% steers, 46% heifers, 13% bulls with 29% over 600 pounds. Slaughter cows were steady to $2 higher. Slaughter bulls were steady. There was a good attendance of buyers and active trade. A total of 410 head of cows and bulls sold with 65% to packers.

Lean, 83 head, 85 to 90% lean, 1000 to 1400 lbs., 52.50 to 56.00; high dressing, 58.00 to 59.50; low dressing, 48.50 to 52.00. Light, 57 head, 85 to 90% lean, 700 to 1000 lbs., 46.00 to 49.50; high dressing, 50.00 to 53.50; low dressing, 40.00 to 44.00.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 to 2, 24 head, 1200 to 2100 lbs., 70.00 to 73.50; high dressing, 74.00 to 76.50; low dressing, 66.00 to 69.50.

Replacement cows: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 4 to 5 years old, 1300 to 1400 lbs., 4 to 6 months bred, high dressing, 900.00 to 960.00; 2 to 6 years old, 825 to 1200 lbs., 4 to 6 months bred, average 720.00 to 810.00.
