HPWD Board of Directors approves resolution adopting 2008 ad valorem tax rateTexas The High Plains Underground Water Conservation District No. 1 Board of Directors approved a resolution adopting a 2008 ad valorem tax rate of $.00794 per $100 property valuation for operation and maintenance of the district during their Sept. 9 meeting. This is the same rate as approved for 2007. "While this is the same rate adopted by the Board last year, the increased property valuation caused the proposed tax rate to exceed the 2008 effective rate. Because of this, the district conducted public hearings on Aug. 21 and Aug. 28 at its Lubbock office to give constituents an opportunity to comment on the proposed 2008 tax rate," said Manager Jim Conkwright. He added that the district did not receive any negative comments concerning the proposed 2008 ad valorem tax rate. At the 2008 rate, persons with $100,000 in property valuation pay $7.94 in taxes to the underground water conservation district. Created in September 1951 by local residents and the state legislature, the High Plains Underground Water Conservation District No. 1 works to conserve, preserve, and protect groundwater stored in the Ogallala aquifer within its 15-county service area. 9/15/08 Date: 9/11/08 Advertisement
