Ft. Smith livestock auction report

The Ft. Smith Livestock, Ft. Smith, Ark., reported receipts of 1,321 head Sept. 8, compared to 1,482 head last year, according to the Arkansas Department of Agriculture-USDA Market News, Little Rock, Ark.

Compared to two weeks ago, slaughter cows were $2 lower. Slaughter bulls were $2 higher. Feeder steers and heifers were steady to $3 higher. The supply included 700 feeder calves, 412 feeder yearlings, 60 replacement cows, 128 slaughter cows, 20 slaughter bulls, and 1 replacement bull. The feeder supply consisted of about 40% English breed and English crosses, 30% exotic breed and exotic crosses, 30% Brahman and Brahman crosses, and 0% Holsteins and other dairy breeds. The feeder supply included about 55% steers and bulls with 45% heifers. Prices follow with weighted average price in parenthesis.

Slaughter cows: Breakers, 75 to 80% lean, 1000 to 1500 lbs., 49.00 to 53.50; high dressing, 54.00 to 58.00; low dressing, 44.00 to 48.50. Boners, 80 to 85% lean, 950 to 1400 lbs., 45.00 to 49.50; high dressing, 50.00 to 55.00; low dressing, 40.00 to 44.50. Lean, 85 to 90% lean, 900 to 1300 lbs., 51.00 to 55.50; high dressing, 56.00 to 60.00; low dressing, 46.00 to 50.50.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 to 2, 1000 to 2100 lbs., 70.00 to 74.50; high dressing, 75.00 to 79.00; low dressing, 66.00 to 69.50.

Feeder steers: Medium and large frame 1, 400 to 445 lbs., 110.00 to 125.00 (115.55); 450 to 495 lbs., 107.50 to 124.00 (112.32); 505 to 546 lbs., 107.00 to 114.50 (111.71); 550 to 595 lbs., 102.00 to 112.00 (105.24); 602 to 635 lbs., 102.00 to 111.50 (107.27); 700 to 740 lbs., 97.00 to 105.00 (101.23); 750 to 780 lbs., 100.00 to 103.00 (102.02). Pairs: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 4 to 7 years old, 800 to 1150 lbs., with 100- to 200 -lb. calves, 800.00 to 1125.00 per pair.
