Amarillo livestock sales report

The Amarillo Livestock Auction, Amarillo, Texas, reported receipts of 741 head Sept. 9, compared to 409 head last week and 858 head last year, according to the USDA-Texas Department of Agriculture Market News, Amarillo, Texas.

Compared to last week, feeder steers and heifers over 600 pounds were not enough last week for an adequate comparison, however a lower undertone was noted on the few representative sales. Steer and heifer calves under 600 pounds were firm to $3 higher on a limited test. There was a good run of cows but last week's light test made a comparison difficult, however the undertone was $1 to $2 higher than last week. The bulk of the supply were Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 300- to 800-pound feeder steers and heifers. Trade and demand were moderate to good. Slaughter cows made up 15% of the offering, slaughter bulls 2%, replacement cows 5% and feeders 78%. The feeder supply included 35% steers and 65% heifers, with nearly 54% of the run weighed over 600 pounds.

Steers: Medium and large frame 1, 375 to 400 lbs., 138.00 to 141.00; few 410 to 416 lbs., 127.00 to 134.00; package 488 lbs., 118.00; package 507 lbs., 115.00. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 280 to 300 lbs., 117.00 to 134.00; 500 to 600 lbs., 103.00 to 107.00; package 685 lbs., 103.00. Medium and large frame 2, package 389 lbs., 114.00; 600 to 700 lbs., 99.00 to 106.50; package 755 lbs., 99.00.

Feeder bulls: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, package 487 lbs., 106.00; 575 to 600 lbs., few 100.00; package 613 lbs., 102.00; 700 to 750 lbs., 98.00 to 102.00; package 800 lbs., 94.00.

Heifers: Medium and large frame 1, 300 to 375 lbs., 116.00 to 118.50; 400 to 500 lbs., 113.00 to 116.00; 500 to 525 lbs., 104.00 to 108.00; package 697 lbs., 106.00. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, few 270 to 300 lbs., 109.00 to 113.00; 400 to 450 lbs., 108.00 to 112.00; 500 to 600 lbs., 96.00 to 101.00; 600 to 700 lbs., 104.00 to 105.75; 700 to 800 lbs., 100.00 to 103.00, 707 lbs., fleshy 94.00; package 818 lbs., 95.00. Medium and large frame 2, few 410 to 490 lbs., 97.00 to 103.00; 600 to 650 lbs., 94.00 to 97.00; 700 to 750 lbs., 90.00 to 94.00.

Slaughter cows: Breakers, 75 to 80% lean, 1200 to 1600 lbs., 54.00 to 58.50; high dressing, 59.00 to 61.50; low dressing, 48.50 to 54.00. Boners, 80 to 85% lean, 1000 to 1500 lbs., 57.00 to 59.00; high dressing, 59.50 to 61.50; low dressing, 49.00 to 56.00. Lean, 85 to 90% lean, 1000 to 1200 lbs., 53.00 to 57.00; high dressing, 57.50 to 61.00; low dressing, 47.00 to 52.00; 85 to 90% lean, 800 to 1000 lbs., 48.00 to 52.00; high dressing, 52.00 to 54.00; low dressing, 29.00 to 34.00.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 to 2, 1300 to 1900 lbs., 72.00 to 74.25; high dressing, 1400 to 2300 lbs., 75.00 to 76.00; low dressing, 1100 to 1500 lbs., 64.00 to 68.00.

Bred cows: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, middle-aged, 1000 to 1300 lbs., 3 to 8 months bred, 660.00 to 850.00 per head.

Pairs: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, middle-aged, 1000 to 1300 lbs., with 150- to 200-lb. calves, 1010.00 to 1200.00 per pair.
