Wyobraska cattle sales reportThe combined sales volume of Wyoming, western Nebraska, western North and South Dakota auctions for the week ending Aug. 23 totaled 5,320 head, compared to 6,100 head last week and 7,525 head last year, according to the USDA-Wyoming Department of Agriculture Market News, Torrington, Wyo. Compared to two weeks ago at Wyoming auctions, feeder steers and heifers sold unevenly steady, instances were $2 higher on 600-pound heifers. Direct trading was slow to moderate. Comparable sales were steady to $1 lower. Buyer inquiry and demand was light to moderate for moderate offerings. Unless otherwise noted direct prices are current FOB with a 2 to 3% shrink or equivalent, and with a 5 to 10 cent slide on calves and 3 to 6 cent slide on yearlings from base weight. Steers made up approximately 60% of the supply, heifers 40%, with 95% over 600 pounds. Direct sales accounted for 3860 head of the total receipts.
