West Plains regional salesThe Ozarks Regional Stockyard, West Plains, Mo., reported receipts of 3,200 head Aug. 26, compared to 3,927 head last week and 4,150 head last year, according to the Missouri Department of Agriculture-USDA Market News Service, Jefferson City, Mo. Compared to last week, steers were steady to $2 higher. Heifers sold $1 to $3 lower. The supply was moderate. Demand was moderate to good, noted best on better quality, uniform, weaned calves with shots, preferably blacks and about any group of yearlings, which was topped off with a 250 head string of grassy heifers. Generally, quality was no better than the previous sale, with several calves not quite good enough to fit most orders. The supply consisted of 35% steers, 9% bulls and 56% heifers, with nearly 53% over 600 pounds. Feeder steers: Medium and large frame 1 few 300 to 350 lbs., 125.00 to 135.00; 400 to 500 lbs., 116.50 to 125.50; 500 to 600 lbs., 116.00 to 124.50; 600 to 700 lbs., 109.50 to 118.00, some soft/fleshy calves 100.00 to 108.00; few 800 to 810 lbs., 110.00.
