Sioux Falls sheep sales

The Sioux Falls sheep auction, Sioux Falls, S.D., reported receipts of 933 head Aug. 26, compared to 1,403 head last week and 1,494 head last year, according to the USDA-South Dakota Department of Agriculture Market News Service, Sioux Falls, S.D.

Compared to last week, slaughter lambs sold $5 to $6 lower. Slaughter ewes wre too few for an accurate test however a steady undertone was noted. Feeder lambs sold steady on a light test. Receipts included about 45% slaughter lambs, 12% slaughter ewes, 35% feeder lambs and the balance was show lambs, bucks and miscellaneous sheep. Buyer attendance was moderate with moderate to good demand.

Slaughter lambs: Shorn Choice 2 to 3, 137 to 139 lbs., 87.00 to 90.00 (89.55). Wooled, Choice and Prime 2 to 3, 133 to 144 lbs., 94.00 to 95.25 (94.84); 26 head, 154 lbs., 95.50. Wooled, Choice 2 to 3, 80 head, 125 lbs., 90.00; 131 to 135 lbs., 86.00 to 91.25 (90.20).

Slaughter ewes: Good 2 to 3, fleshy, 8 head, 143 lbs., 30.00; 171 to 187 lbs., 30.00 to 33.00 (31.92). Good 2 to 4, fleshy, 15 head, 204 to 228 lbs., 34.00 to 39.25 (37.01). Utility 1 to 2, Medium fleshed, 5 head, 134 lbs., 18.00. Cull 1, thin, 126 to 134 lbs., 10.00 to 15.25 (13.95).

Feeder lambs: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 6 head, 48 lbs., 112.25; 20 head, 64 to 65 lbs., 110.25 to 112.75 (112.24); 70 to 75 lbs., 102.00 to 107.75 (105.59); 15 head, 80 lbs., 94.00; 45 head, 92 lbs., 94.00; 87 head, 100 lbs., 90.50. Small and medium frame 1 to 2, 13 head, 35 lbs., 91.00. Small frame 1 to 2, 16 head, 45 lbs., 99.50.

Slaughter kids: Selection 1, 7 head, 58 lbs., 93.00 to 97.00 (95.86). Selection 1 to 2, 7 head, 86 lbs., 87.00.

Slaughter nannies/does: Selection 2, 17 head, 101 to 116 lbs., 40.00.
