Simmental association to host SimPlace Sept. 5Colorado Colorado Simmental Association will host Colorado SimPlace Sept. 5 in Fort Collins. The informational meeting and brisket dinner will unveil the American Simmental Association's new marketing program and kick off Colorado State University Ag Day events. Colorado SimPlace will begin at 5 p.m., Sept. 5 at CSU's ARDEC facilities. The session will focus on the ASA's new program called 70:70. It is a partnership between ASA and JBS Swift & Company to a marketing grid with rewards for Choice, Yield Grade 2 carcasses. The grid provides outstanding rewards for fed cattle that can deliver both high marbling and muscular carcasses. Its goal is to produce 70 percent Choice and 70 percent Yield Grade #1's and 2's. Topics will include "Genetic Evaluation of Carcass Merit in Simmental" by CSU's Dr. Denny Crews; the 70:70 program by ASA's Wes Teimann, and "Crossbreeding Using Simmental and Angus from a Rancher's Perspective" by Willie Altenburg. A question and answer session and complimentary supper will round out the evening.
