Ringwood FFA member blazes his way to Indianapolis

Oklahoma

In October, 55,000 FFA members and guests from across the nation will come together in Indianapolis, Indiana for the 81st National FFA Convention. During the week long event they will be entertained by the National FFA band. One of the Trombone players in this band will be Ringwood FFA's own Josh Conaway, son of Scott and Tammy Conaway, who is a sophomore at Ringwood High School. Josh is the grandson of Joe and Beverly Bierig from Okeene, and Bois and Clara Farrington from Ringwood.

Josh, with the help of his band instructor Mr. Pearce, submitted a tape in which he show-cased his talent by playing the theme to Blazing Saddles. From this tape he was selected to be one of the 95 members of the National FFA band. The band members represent 28 states, six of whom come from Oklahoma. The band is sponsored by Dow Agriscience.

The group will come together a week before the convention, and on Oct. 22 they will lead the march down FFA Way to Conseco Fieldhouse for the opening ceremonies of the convention. From that point on they will be busy performing at convention pre-sessions, evening concerts and special banquet and meal functions. Their job is to provide motivation and enthusiasm throughout the week. Josh is looking forward to combining two of his passions, FFA and music. He also feels it will provide him an opportunity to make new friends in addition to being a memorable experience playing in front of so many people.
