Pratt livestock auction report

Pratt Livestock Sales Inc., Pratt, Kan., report receipts of 4,505 head Aug. 21, compared to 4,274 head last week and 1,994 head last year, according to the USDA-Kansas Department of Agriculture Market News, Dodge City, Kan.

Compared with last week, the few sales of steers at 650 to 950 pounds were steady, bulk of the trade was weak to $2 lower. Medium and large frame 1 heifers at 650 to 950 pounds were steady, other grades were weak to $2 lower. Steers and heifers at 300 to 650 pounds not enough for a market test, limited sales were steady. Slaughter cows and slaughter bulls were steady. Trade was moderate and demand good. Receipts included 88% 600 pounds and over, 5% under 600 pounds and 7% slaughter cows and bulls. The feeder supply consisted of 47% steers and 53% heifers.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 to 2, 73.00 to 75.00; low dressing, 63.00 to 72.50.
