Pasture, range conditions rated mostly fair to poorColorado Most of Colorado experienced precipitation levels below average for this time of year during the week ending Aug. 24, according to the National Agricultural Statistics Service, Colorado Field Office, Aug. 25. Temperatures also averaged a little below normal. Fall potatoes, spring wheat, and spring barley were damaged from a hail storm Aug. 16 in the San Luis Valley. Producers were allowed 5.8 days in the field for operations. Spring barley was 31 percent harvested in mostly good condition. Spring wheat completed the turning color stage and was 30 percent harvested and is rated in mostly good condition. The corn crop was 60 percent at or beyond the dough stage and 26 percent dented with the crop in mostly fair to good condition last week. Sorghum was 95 percent headed, 81 percent turning color, and 4 percent mature with the crop in mostly fair condition by week's end. Pasture and range conditions across Colorado were rated mostly fair to poor. Second cutting alfalfa was 96 percent complete while third cutting was 29 percent complete. The crop was rated in mostly good to fair condition. Death losses for cattle were rated average while sheep and lambs were rated just below average.
