OKC West livestock sales report

The OKC West Livestock Market Inc., El Reno, Okla., reported receipts of 6,010 head Aug. 27, compared to 2,493 head last week and 4,020 head last year, according to the USDA-Oklahoma Department of Agriculture Market News, Oklahoma City, Okla.

Compared to last week, feeder steers were steady to $2 lower, least decline on 8 weights. Feeder heifers were $2 to $3 lower. Demand was moderate to good for feeder cattle. Quality of feeder cattle average to attractive with several load lots of black hided or thin fleshed cattle available. Steer and heifer calves not well tested. There were about 270 head of reputation brand calves were on offer and these sold to very good demand. Cattle futures closed sharply lower but some say in sympathy with the sharp declines in the hog complex. The supply consisted of 87% over 600 pounds, 8% under 600 pounds, and 5% cows and bulls. The total numbers included 29% heifers. Slaughter cows were $1 lower. Slaughter bulls were $1 to $2 lower. Packer demand was moderate to good. A total of 340 cows and bulls with 45% going to packers.

Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 495 lbs., 119.00; 525 lbs., thin 129.00; 525 to 575 lbs., 112.50 to 114.00; 600 to 700 lbs., 112.00 to 114.25; 700 to 775 lbs., 109.00 to 113.00; 800 to 900 lbs., 105.00 to 109.50; 950 lbs., 105.00. Replacement cows: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, heifers, 950 to 1050 lbs., 3 to 8 months bred, high black 900.00 to 990.00; 2 to 3 years old, 900 to 1050 lbs., 2 to 3 months bred, average black 870.00; 5 to 6 years old, 1050 to 1350 lbs., 5 to 6 months bred, high black 930.00 to 1025.00; 5 to 6 years old, 1150 to 1300 lbs., 4 to 7 months average quality 780.00 to 860.00; 7 to 8 years old, 1050 to 1150 lbs., 2 to 7 months average quality 630.00 to 650.00.

Pairs: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 4 years old, 1000 lbs., with 175-lb. calves, average black 1175.00; 5 to 7 years old, 1050 to 1250 lbs., with 125- to 175-lb. calves average quality 910.00 to 930.00; 7 to 9 years old, 1050 to 1200 lbs., with 125- to 325-lb. calves average quality 720.00 to 810.00.
