North Arkansas livestock sales report

The North Arkansas Livestock, Green Forest, Ark., reported receipts of 1,045 head Aug. 27, compared to 1,354 head last year, according to the Arkansas Department of Agriculture-USDA Market News Service, Little Rock, Ark.

Compared to two weeks ago, slaughter cows were $2 to $3 lower. Slaughter bulls $3 lower. Feeder steers, mixed nearly steady. Feeder heifers mixed with the better heifers under 650 pounds were steady to $3 higher, with full advance on the black-hided over 650 pounds, and plainer kind generally steady to $3 lower. Slaughter cows made up 10% of the offering, replacement cows 19%, slaughter bulls 2%, and feeders 88%. The feeder supply included 29% steers, 46% heifers, and 25% bulls, with nearly 46% over 600 pounds.

Boners, 80 to 85% lean, 9 head, 1060 to 1335 lbs., 48.50 to 53.00 (51.85); 19 head, 1040 to 1375 lbs., 54.00 to 60.50; 56.48 high dressing; 3 head, 1430 to 1505 lbs., 55.00; 55.00 high dressing. Lean, 85 to 90% lean, 12 head, 830 to 1150 lbs., 45.00 to 52.50 (49.22); 10 head, 870 to 1205 lbs., 52.50 to 57.50; 54.24 high dressing; 4 head, 815 to 915 lbs., 29.00 to 42.50; 38.62 low dressing.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 to 2, 3 head, 1045 to 1480 lbs., 63.50 to 67.00 (65.37); 5 head, 1540 to 1705 lbs., 65.50 to 69.50 (68.51); 4 head, 1615 to 1890 lbs., 69.50 to 71.50; 70.29 high dressing.

Replacement bulls: 3 years old, 1380 lbs., 1000.00 per head.

Replacement cows: Pre to tested for bangs; pregnancy, and age, Medium and large frame 1 to 2, most cows black from herd sellouts, 2 years old, 650 to 1000 lbs., open heiferettes, 70.00 to 76.00; 2 to 7 years old, 900 to 1200 lbs., second stage, 725.00 to 950.00 per head; second and third stage, 850.00 to 1050.00 per head; first stage or open, 53.00 to 73.00; 7 to 10 years old, 850 to 1200 lbs., second and third stage, 750.00 to 980.00 per head; thin grazing cows, 45.00 to 50.00.

Pairs: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 2 to 7 years old, 900 to 1200 lbs., with 200- to 300-lb. calves, 1000.00 per pair. Small and medium frame 2 to 3, 2 to 6 years old, 650 to 900 lbs., with 100- to 300-lb. calves, 575.00 to 750.00 per pair.
