McAlester livestock sales report

The McAlester Union Livestock Market, McAlester, Okla., reported receipts of 2,450 head Aug. 26, compared to 2,485 head last week and 1,250 head last year, according to the Oklahoma Department of Agriculture-USDA Market News, Oklahoma City, Okla.

Compared to last week, No. 1 stocker and feeder cattle sold $2 to $3 lower. Other cattle sold $3 to $5 lower with an abundance of Brahman cross calves in the trade. There was a good attendance of buyers and active trade on better offerings, moderate on balance. Cattle were in thin to fleshy conditions with plain cattle dominant. Receipts included 43% steers, 43% heifers, 14% bulls with 32% cattle over 600 pounds. Slaughter cows were steady to $2 lower. Slaughter bulls were $2 to $3 lower. A total of 385 cows sold with 55% to packers.

Replacement cows: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 4 to 7 years old, 1140 to 1370 lbs., 5 to 8 months bred, average, 700.00 to 750.00.
