Limousin Juniors show creativity while raising more than $5,000

North American Limousin Junior Association members got creative at the National Junior Limousin Show and Congress--July 12 to 18 in Sioux Falls, S.D.--in their efforts to raise funds for their organization.

The NALJA Board of Directors members served ice-cream to about 150 people July 17 and cleared nearly $500 for junior activities and scholarships. Patton's Seldom Rest Farm, Hillsboro, Ohio, donated the ice-cream.

In a "Cow Patty Bingo" fundraiser later that day, No. 87 was the lucky square for Diehm Family Limousin, Kendallville, Ind. The Diehms won $837.50 on their $50, 4-square-foot investment then donated the money to NALJA. The association made $3,350 from the event.

At the July 18 awards banquet, NALJA auctioned a framed photo that Western photographer David Stoecklein of Ketchum, Idaho, took at Wulf Limousin Farms near Morris, Minn. Trans Ova Genetics, based in Sioux Center, Iowa, initially purchased the 3-by-5-foot print for $800 and donated it back. The second sale netted $750 from the Amarillo, Texas, Convention and Visitor Council, which will display the print in its office. Rachel Wulf-Marthaler, Hastings, Minn., and Destron Fearing, with headquarters in South Saint Paul, Minn., donated the item.

Even getting ready for the banquet turned into an opportunity for creative fundraising. Kayleesue Patton, Hillsboro, Ohio; Rita Wulf, Hancock, Minn.; and Wulf-Marthaler offered haircuts and hairdos for their fellow NALJA members at the fairgrounds that afternoon, collecting $175 for the association.
