Ft. Smith livestock sales report

The Ft. Smith Livestock Auction, Ft. Smith, Ark., reported receipts of 888 head Aug. 25, compared to 1,167 head last week and 1,208 head last year, according to the Arkansas Department of Agriculture-USDA Market News Service, Little Rock, Ark.

Compared to last week, slaughter cows were $l to $2 lower. Slaughter bulls were weak. Feeder steers and heifers were $3 to $5 higher. The supply included 40% English breed and English crosses, 30% exotic breed and exotic crosses, 30% Brahman and Brahman crosses, and 0% Holsteins and other dairy breeds. The feeder supply consisted of about 55% steers and bulls with 45% heifers. Prices follow with weighted average price in parenthesis.

Slaughter cows: Breakers, 75 to 80% lean, 1000 to 1500 lbs., 49.00 to 53.50; high dressing, 54.00 to 58.00; low dressing, 44.00 to 48.50. Boners, 80 to 85% lean, 950 to 1400 lbs., 45.00 to 49.50; high dressing, 50.00 to 55.00; low dressing, 40.00 to 44.50. Lean, 85 to 90% lean, 900 to 1300 lbs., 53.00 to 57.50; high dressing, 58.00 to 62.50; low dressing, 48.00 to 52.50.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 to 2, 1000 to 2100 lbs., 68.00 to 72.50; high dressing, 73.00 to 77.50; low dressing, 57.50 to 65.00.

Feeder steers: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 310 to 325 lbs., 129.00 to 142.50 (131.62); 370 to 395 lbs., 122.00 to 126.00 (124.34); 420 to 445 lbs., 116.00 to 124.50 (118.93); 450 to 495 lbs., 117.00 to 127.00 (120.73); 500 to 545 lbs., 114.00 to 122.00 (116.88); 553 to 595 lbs., 109.00 to 116.00 (110.68); 600 to 645 lbs., 105.00 to 111.50 (110.19); 655 to 695 lbs., 100.00 to 109.50 (106.59); 750 lbs., 100.00 to 105.00 (102.50). Pairs: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 2 to 6 years old, 1000 to 1150 lbs., with 100- to 250-lb. calves, 700.00 to 860.00 per pair.
