Ft. Smith livestock sales reportThe Ft. Smith Livestock Auction, Ft. Smith, Ark., reported receipts of 888 head Aug. 25, compared to 1,167 head last week and 1,208 head last year, according to the Arkansas Department of Agriculture-USDA Market News Service, Little Rock, Ark. Compared to last week, slaughter cows were $l to $2 lower. Slaughter bulls were weak. Feeder steers and heifers were $3 to $5 higher. The supply included 40% English breed and English crosses, 30% exotic breed and exotic crosses, 30% Brahman and Brahman crosses, and 0% Holsteins and other dairy breeds. The feeder supply consisted of about 55% steers and bulls with 45% heifers. Prices follow with weighted average price in parenthesis. Slaughter cows: Breakers, 75 to 80% lean, 1000 to 1500 lbs., 49.00 to 53.50; high dressing, 54.00 to 58.00; low dressing, 44.00 to 48.50. Boners, 80 to 85% lean, 950 to 1400 lbs., 45.00 to 49.50; high dressing, 50.00 to 55.00; low dressing, 40.00 to 44.50. Lean, 85 to 90% lean, 900 to 1300 lbs., 53.00 to 57.50; high dressing, 58.00 to 62.50; low dressing, 48.00 to 52.50. Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 to 2, 1000 to 2100 lbs., 68.00 to 72.50; high dressing, 73.00 to 77.50; low dressing, 57.50 to 65.00.
