Don and Kathy Sissel named Hereford Advisors of the YearDon and Kathy Sissel, Billings, Mo., were honored as 2008 Advisors of the Year, July 18 at the Junior National Hereford Expo in Kansas City. The couple has contributed their time, talents and guidance for seven years to the Missouri Junior Hereford Association members, their families and the Missouri Hereford Association. The Sissels own and operate Trailwood Cattle Company, a registered Polled Hereford operation that has been in the Hereford business for forty five years. The couple was instrumental in the success of this year's JNHE, serving on the host committee and coordinating the hospitality for the event. During the year, the Sissels travel to MJHA events to organize fundraising activities; JNHE; PRIDE Convention plans and conduct the business of the Missouri juniors. At each of these meetings, Don and Kathy plan a fun activity for the juniors and their families. They also prepare lunch every day at the JNHE and coordinate the schedules of all the Missouri participants. The Sissels assist the juniors with the operation of their concession stand that is operated at the two MHA sales each year. They volunteer their time and offer their help to the state's juniors in many ways. Both are active in the MHA and attend all meetings to represent the juniors and update members on current junior activities. Kathy is also a member of the Missouri Hereford Women and helps with the activities of the Missouri Hereford Queen. The NJHA is one of the most active junior programs in the country with approximately 3,000 members. The NJHA's mission is to create and promote enthusiasm for the breed while providing opportunities through leadership, education and teamwork.
