Dalhart livestock sales report

The Cattleman's Livestock Auction, Dalhart, Texas, reported receipts of 910 head Aug. 21, compared to 1,812 head last week and 1,030 head last year, according to the Texas Department of Agriculture Market News-USDA Market News, Amarillo, Texas.

Compared to last week, feeder steers and heifers were mostly steady on a light test. Slaughter cows and bulls were steady to weak. Trade and demand were moderate. The bulk of the supply was Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 300- to 900-pound feeder steers and heifers. Slaughter cows made up 39% of the offering, slaughter bulls 6%, replacement cows 2%, and feeders 53%. The feeder supply included 40% steers and 60% heifers, with nearly 60% of the run over 600 pounds.

Steers: Medium and large frame 1, 300 to 400 lbs., 131.00 to 138.00; few 400 to 500 lbs., 119.00 to 120.00; 500 to 600 lbs., 116.00 to 120.00; package 625 lbs., 117.50, 600 to 700 lb. calves 106.00 to 111.00, package 792 lbs., 107.50. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, package 318 lbs., 129.00; two packages 525 to 531 lbs., 108.00 to 113.00; package 651 lbs., 111.00; package 864 lbs., 108.00. Medium and large frame 2, package 320 lbs., 110.00.

Heifers: Medium and large frame 1, package 240 lbs., 125.00; two packages 442 to 490 lbs., 108.50; 500 to 600 lbs., 106.00 to 109.00; package 676 lbs., 107.00; load 749 lbs., 111.00; lot 892 lbs., 102.75; lot 980 lbs., 99.75. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, package 484 lbs., 106.00; package 742 lbs., 103.00. Medium and large frame 2, 600 to 700 lbs., 100.00 to 101.00.

Slaughter cows: Breakers, 75 to 80% lean, 1300 to 1600 lbs., 61.50 to 63.00. Boners, 80 to 85% lean, 1100 to 1400 lbs., 61.00 to 64.00. Lean, 85 to 90% lean, 1000 to 1300 lbs., 59.00 to 63.00; low dressing, 53.50 to 55.00; 85 to 90% lean, 800 to 1000 lbs., 56.00 to 59.00; low dressing, 50.50 to 54.00.

Dairy slaughter cows: Breakers, 75 to 80% lean, 1600 to 1750 lbs., 63.00 to 64.75. Boners, 80 to 85% lean, 1500 to 1700 lbs., 63.00 to 64.00. Lean, 85 to 90% lean, 1100 to 1400 lbs., 59.00 to 63.00.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 to 2, 1500 to 2200 lbs., 80.50 to 85.50; high dressing, 1900 to 2150 lbs., 87.00 to 90.00; low dressing, 1300 to 1500 lbs., 67.00 to 71.00.

Replacement cows: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, young to middle-aged, 825 to 1000 lbs., 1 to 3 months bred, 600.00 to 760.00 per head.
