Arkansas livestock sales summary report

The weekly summary of Arkansas livestock sales for the week ending Aug. 21, showed estimated receipts of 6,380 head, compared to 9,960 head last week and 9,376 head last year, according to the Arkansas Extension Service-USDA Market News, Little Rock, Ark.

Compared to last week, slaughter cows sold steady to $1 higher. Slaughter bulls sold steady. Feeders sold steady to $2 lower. Reduced receipts were due to market reporters attending a conference in Memphis, Tenn. The sale was composed of 3,805 stocker and feeder calves, 1,435 feeder yearlings, 330 replacement cows, 749 slaughter cows and 70 slaughter bulls. The feeder supply was 40% yearling heifers.

Slaughter cows: Breakers, 75 to 80% lean, 1000 to 1500 lbs., 52.00 to 58.00; high dressing, 58.00 to 64.00. Boners, 80 to 85% lean, 950 to 1400 lbs., 52.00 to 58.00; high dressing, 58.00 to 68.00; low dressing, 48.00 to 52.00. Lean, 85 to 90% lean, 900 to 1300 lbs., 47.00 to 53.00; high dressing, 53.00 to 63.00; low dressing, 40.00 to 47.00. Light, 85 to 92% lean, 700 to 950 lbs., 35.00 to 42.00.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 to 2, 1000 to 2100 lbs., 65.00 to 73.00; high dressing, 73.00 to 78.00; low dressing, 60.00 to 64.00.

Feeder steers: Medium and large frame 1, 300 to 345 lbs., 115.00 to 137.00 (122.40); 350 to 397 lbs., 115.00 to 132.50 (121.59); 400 to 449 lbs., 104.00 to 127.00 (114.75); 410 to 410 lbs., gaunt 124.00 (124.00); 450 to 496 lbs., 105.00 to 118.00 (111.40); 500 to 548 lbs., 101.00 to 119.00 (109.49); 550 to 598 lbs., 100.00 to 117.00 (108.50); 600 to 648 lbs., 99.00 to 116.00 (105.81); 650 to 695 lbs., 96.00 to 113.00 (104.79); 703 to 740 lbs., 99.00 to 111.00 (108.78); 751 to 790 lbs., 99.00 to 108.00 (104.12); 799 lbs., fleshy 96.00. Pairs: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 3 to 7 years old, 800 to 1200 lbs., 100- to 200-lb. calves, 850.00 to 950.00/pair; 200- to 300-lb. calves, 1000.00 to 1100.00/pair few to 1200.00. Small and medium frame 1 to 2, 5 to 10 years old, 750 to 950 lbs., with 100- to 200-lb. calves, 700.00 to 800.00/pair.
