American Simmental internship opportunities availableThe American Simmental Association in Bozeman, Mont., is offering two internships for spring 2009. One position begins Feb. 1, and the other on March 15 with both concluding around June 15. These positions are involved with the ASA Carcass Merit, Calving Ease and Feed Efficiency Projects. Each year these ASA Research Projects individually identify more than 1,000 calves. The herd management internships are hands-on experiences that include calving, tagging, collecting birth weights, calving ease scores and calf vigor. Beginning in April, the interns help with synchronization and artificial insemination. In addition to living and working on some of the best managed ranches in Montana, interns spend time at ASA Headquarters learning data management and genetic evaluation. Generally, interns receive college credits for the experience with ASA, along with extensive experience in herd management and beef production. The two internship positions will be filled by early fall 2008, so if you have interest in applying and have completed two years of college, contact Paulette Cochenour by e-mail at pcochenour@simmgene.com or at 406-556-9636. The American Simmental Association is headquartered in Bozeman, Mont., and maintains the breed registries for the Simmental and Simbrah breeds of cattle. ASA has an active adult and junior membership of nearly 8,000. 9/1/08 Date: 8/27/08 Advertisement
