Amarillo livestock sales

The Amarillo Livestock Auction, Amarillo, Texas, reported receipts of 734 head Aug. 26, compared to 383 head last week and 1,281 head last year, according to the USDA-Texas Department of Agriculture Market News, Amarillo, Texas.

Compared to last week, feeder steers and heifers over 600 pounds traded steady on a light test and under 600 pounds sold steady to $4 higher on a limited test with most increase on the lightest weights. Good run of cows but limited test made a comparison difficult, however the undertone was higher than last week but lower than the last full test two weeks ago. The bulk of the supply were Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 700- to 900-pound feeder steers and heifers. Trade and demand was moderate to good. Slaughter cows made up 15% of the offering, slaughter bulls 2%, replacement cows 5% and feeders 78%. The feeder supply included 60% steers and 40% heifers, with nearly 67% of the run over 600 pounds.

Steers: Medium and large frame 1, package 437 lbs., 129.00; package 678 lbs., 113.00. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 300 to 400 lbs., 124.00 to 128.00; few 440 to 450 lbs., 114.00 to 127.00; package 585 lbs., 109.00; package 695 lbs., 107.50; lot 709 lbs., calves 103.00. Medium and large frame 2, package 594 lbs., 98.00; package 713 lbs., 105.00.

Heifers: Medium and large frame 1, package 295 lbs., 121.00; few 405 to 452 lbs., 109.00 to 113.00. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, few 304 to 341 lbs., 109.00 to 112.00; package 558 lbs., 95.00; package fleshy 690 lbs., 97.00; 700 to 800 lbs., 102.00 to 107.25. Medium and large frame 2, few 352 to 386 lbs., 90.00 to 93.00; package 560 lbs., 82.00.

Slaughter cows: Breakers, 75 to 80% lean, 1200 to 1600 lbs., 57.00 to 59.50; high dressing, 61.00. Boners, 80 to 85% lean, 1000 to 1500 lbs., 58.00 to 60.25; high dressing, 60.50 to 61.00; low dressing, 54.50 to 57.50. Lean, 85 to 90% lean, 1000 to 1200 lbs., 53.00 to 55.00; high dressing, 57.00 to 60.00; low dressing, 47.00 to 51.00; 85 to 90% lean, 800 to 1000 lbs., 44.00 to 48.75; high dressing, 50.00 to 53.50; low dressing, 38.00 to 44.00.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 to 2, 1300 to 1900 lbs., 69.00 to 71.00; high dressing, 1400 to 2300 lbs., 74.00 to 75.50; low dressing, 1100 to 1500 lbs., 68.00 to 70.00.

Bred cows: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, middle-aged, 1000 to 1300 lbs., 3 to 8 months bred, 850.00 to 870.00 per head.

Pairs: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, middle-aged, 1000 to 1300 lbs., with 150- to 200-lb. calves, 900.00 to 940.00 per pair.
