Ag Lenders Conferences set for Garden City, Manhattan

Kansas

The Kansas State University Agricultural Lenders Conferences will be in the eastern and western parts of the state this year to accommodate as many participants as possible, regardless of where they live and work.

The first conference is set for Oct. 1 at the K-State Southwest Research and Extension Center at 4500 East Mary St. in Garden City. The second conference is Oct. 8 across from K-State's Snyder Family Stadium in the International Grains Program Conference Center at 1980 Kimball Ave. in Manhattan.

Early registration deadlines are Sept. 25 for the Garden City conference and Oct. 2 for the Manhattan program. The cost for early registration is $80. Registration at the door the day of the conference is $90. The fee includes lunch at the selected location.

"K-State Research and Extension agricultural economists will address topics important to agricultural lenders in today's business climate," said James Mintert, K-State professor and Extension state leader for economics programs. "This conference is designed to provide the Kansas financial community with updates on current agricultural topics."

The schedule is the same at both locations. The day starts with registration at 8 a.m., and the program beginning at 8:55 a.m.

The program's presentations on key topics include:

--Livestock Outlook for 2008-2009, James Mintert;

--Grain Outlook for 2008-2009, Mike Woolverton;

--Crop Rental Arrangements in a New Risk Era, Terry Kastens and Kevin Dhuyvetter;

--Commodity Program Decisions in the 2008 Farm Bill, Troy Dumler; and

--Crop Insurance Changes and SURE (Disaster Aid), Art Barnaby.

More information about the conferences is available by contacting Rich Llewelyn in K-State's Department of Agricultural Economics at rvl@ksu.edu or 785-532-1504 or looking on the Web at http://www.agmanager.info.
