Farm Bureau helps jump-start rural Iowa economy through business success seminar

Iowa

Farm Bureau's popular Renew Rural Iowa business seminar is back with a new one-day event designed to help rural business owners affected by the recent down-turn in the economy recharge their businesses.

The seminar, being held in association with Iowa Farm Bureau's Renew Rural Iowa, CIRAS and Ames National Corporation, will be held Oct. 1 at Iowa State University's Reiman Gardens in Ames.

The Renew Rural Iowa Business Success Seminar guides qualified business owners through the fundamentals of a successful business model. It will help business owners to measure their businesses against core business principles, receive a grade or score for their business, write a successful business model and tap opportunities to grow and improve their operations.

This has been a tough year for many Iowa businesses--flooding and increase prices in materials, transportation costs and wild market fluctuations. The Renew Rural Iowa Business Success seminar aims to help business owners accelerate their business success--with insight into key resources to survive the challenging and competitive economic times.

Sandy Ehrig, Farm Bureau's outreach coordinator, said Renew Rural Iowa and Farm Bureau recognize that the damage from this year's flooding is far from over for many Iowa businesses.

"Given the scope of the damage in Iowa this summer and the recent market challenges, we know business owners are in need of advice or a 're-tooling' of their business plans. The business success seminar will bring resources and people together to mentor them through their issues, tap into new financial resources and figure out what their business needs to do to not only stay competitive, but to grow," said Ehrig.

Renew Rural Iowa is designed to help existing and start-up businesses in communities with fewer than 30,000 people grow or develop their business with education and customized mentoring. The initiative is a reservoir of information for entrepreneurs at all stages of development.
