Aromatic Cedar Association annual convention slatedOklahoma Those with an interest in discussing the economic potential of eastern redcedar and similar species should mark their calendars for the Aromatic Cedar Association's Annual Convention. The association was formerly known as the Oklahoma Redcedar Association. The convention will take place on Oct. 17 at the Payne County Expo Center in Stillwater. The Expo Center is located on Highway 51, three miles east of the intersection of Highway 51 and Highway 177. Registration begins at 8:30 a.m., with the convention to begin at 9 a.m. Registration is $25 with a spouse registration of $10. The fee includes a barbecue lunch and refreshments. Pre-registration is requested by Oct. 10. "The convention provides a common forum for the conversation of eastern redcedar and comparable species, with an emphasis on the utilization and product marketing," said Craig McKinley, Oklahoma Cooperative Extension Service state forestry specialist. "It is a great opportunity to learn about topics such as biomass energy and carbon credits, wood pellets for fuel and adding value to redcedar, to name a few." Other topics to be discussed include how to start and maintain a business, grant possibilities and cellulosic ethanol. McKinley said the conference involves a number of industry professionals from across the country who have considerable knowledge to share with conference goers. For more information on the conference contact Robert Hicks at 918-371-2406 or e-mail ronan10@aol.com. Pre-registration can be mailed to Hicks at 10022 E. 135th St. N, Collinsville, OK 74021. The ACA website is www.acedar.org/. The Aromatic Cedar Association goals are to provide information regarding the management and utilization of aromatic cedar, and to connect businesses, individuals and government agencies together to promote and develop the eastern redcedar industry. 10/6/08 Date: 10/2/08
