Wyobraska cattle sales report

The combined sales volume of Wyoming, western Nebraska and western North and South Dakota feedlots for the week ending Oct. 18 totaled 6,000 head, compared to 11,000 head last week and 13,600 head last year, according to the USDA-Wyoming Department of Agriculture Market News, Torrington, Wyo.

Compared to last week at Wyoming auctions, feeder steers and heifer under 600 pounds sold steady to $6 lower, over 600 pounds were unevenly steady. Direct trading was very slow this past week. Demand was moderate to light. Sellers remained on the fence about trading cattle at current price levels. Most were still holding out trading in hopes of higher prices. Most cattle trade remained at sale barns. Offerings were light to moderate. Unless otherwise noted direct prices are current FOB with a 2 to 3% shrink or equivalent, and with a 5 to 10 cent slide on calves and 3 to 6 cent slide on yearlings from base weight. Steers made up approximately 60% of the supply, heifers 40%. Offerings over 600 pounds totaled 44%. Direct sales accounted for none of the total receipts.
