Tulsa livestock sales report

The Tulsa Stockyards, Tulsa, Okla., reported receipts of 3,149 head Oct. 20, compared to 3,050 head last week and 2,878 head last year, according to the Oklahoma Department of Agriculture-USDA Market News Service, Oklahoma City, Okla.

Compared to last week, steer calves were $8 to $12 higher. Feeder steers were $3 to $5 higher. Heifer calves were $7 to $10 higher. Feeder heifers were $2 to $3 higher. Demand was very good. Weigh-ups were mostly average, few full calves. Quality was attractive with several No. 1 muscled cattle in the mix. Buyer attendance was good. Receipts included 56% steers, 32% heifers, 12% bulls, with 29% of feeder cattle over 600 pounds. Slaughter cows were $3 higher. Slaughter bulls were $2.50 higher. Slaughter cow demand very good especially on lean cows. A total of 445 cows and bulls sold with 60% going to packers.

Boners, 48 head, 80 to 85% lean, 1050 to 1600 lbs., 51.00 to 54.50; high dressing, 55.00 to 56.50; low dressing, 47.00 to 50.50. Lean, 97 head, 85 to 90% lean, 950 to 1600 lbs., 50.00 to 53.50; high dressing, 54.50; low dressing, 45.50 to 49.00. Light, 56 head, 85 to 90% lean, 750 to 975 lbs., 42.00 to 45.50; low dressing, 37.50 to 41.00.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 to 2, 40 head, 1200 to 2100 lbs., 62.50 to 66.00; high dressing, 67.00 to 71.50; low dressing, 58.00 to 61.50.

Replacement cows: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 5 to 6 years old, 1050 to 1350 lbs., 3 to 7 months bred, average blacks, 785.00 to 960.00.
