Springfield livestock sales reportThe Springfield Livestock Marketing Center, Springfield, Mo., reported receipts of 2,190 head Oct. 22, compared to 1,588 head last week and 2,429 head last year, according to the Missouri Department of Agriculture-USDA Market News Service, Jefferson City, Mo. Compared to last week, steers under 450 pounds were $2 to $5 higher, 450 to 750 pounds were steady to $3 lower, and over 750 pounds were steady to $3 higher. Holsteins under 700 pounds were $4 to $10 lower, 700 weights were steady to $2 lower, and over 800 pounds were $1 to $4 higher. Heifers were $3 to $5 lower. Demand was moderate to light, and supply moderate. Demand was best for light calves suitable to graze wheat and heavy feeder cattle. Light Holsteins under pressure as the grazing season is closing out and the high cost of winter feeding fast approaching. Continued negative economic talk drove the DJIA down over 500 points. Cattle contracts on the CME closed lower, Corn contracts on the CBOT .25 to .27 cent lower. The feeder supply included 28% steers, 27% Holsteins, 30% heifers, 15% bulls, with 39% over 600 pounds.
