Sioux Falls sheep sales report

The Sioux Falls sheep auction, Sioux Falls, S.D., reported receipts of 641 head Oct. 21, compared to 1,066 head last week and 804 head last year, according to the USDA-South Dakota Department of Agriculture Market News Service, Sioux Falls, S.D.

Compared to last week, shorn and wooled slaughter lambs sold mostly steady. Slaughter ewes sold steady, feeder lambs too few to test. Quality of livestock and yield not as consistent as previous weeks. Receipts included 69% slaughter lambs, 18% slaughter ewes, 9% feeder lambs with the balance mostly bucks.

Slaughter lambs: Shorn Choice and Prime 2 to 3, 26 head, 124 lbs., 95.50; 54 head, 139 lbs., 95.50. Shorn, Choice and Prime 2 to 4, 18 head, 129 lbs., 90.00. Shorn, Choice 2 to 3, 12 head, 110 lbs., 89.00. Wooled, Choice and Prime 2 to 3, 23 head, 118 lbs., 94.00; 143 to 147 lbs., 95.00 to 97.00 (95.98). Wooled, Choice 2 to 3, 13 head, 109 lbs., 93.50; 115 to 116 lbs., 88.00 to 92.00 (91.57).

Slaughter ewes: Good 2 to 3, 153 to 158 lbs., 23.00 to 28.50 (26.19). Utility 1 to 2, 12 head, 131 lbs., 14.00; 20 head, 168 to 180 lbs., 11.00. Cull 1, 134 to 144 lbs., 5.00 to 9.00 (7.41).

Feeder lambs: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 5 head, 84 lbs., 99.00; 91 to 95 lbs., 90.00 to 94.00 (90.69); 5 head, 103 lbs., 94.00. Medium and large frame 2, 7 head, 64 lbs., 76.00; 7 head, 100 lbs., 81.00.

Slaughter kids: Selection 1, 5 head, 60 lbs., 103.00. Selection 1 to 2, 6 head, 38 lbs., 86.00. Selection 2, 12 head, 54 lbs., 77.00.

Slaughter nannies/does: Selection 1, 7 head, 94 lbs., 43.00.
