OKC West livestock sals reportThe OKC West Livestock Market Inc., El Reno, Okla., reported receipts of 5,068 head Oct. 22, compared to 2,895 head last week and 4,718 head last year, according to the USDA-Oklahoma Department of Agriculture Market News, Oklahoma City, Okla. Compared to last week, feeder steers and heifers were $1 to $2 higher, except 800- to 900-pound steers were $1 to $2 lower. Demand was moderate to good for feeder cattle. Cattle futures and grain futures both closed on the negative side with grain futures taking the sharpest hit. Steer and heifer calves were $4 to $10 higher with very good demand. Several high quality ranch calves were available. The supply consisted of 72% over 600 pounds, 18% under 600 pounds, 10% cows and bulls. Receipts included 23% heifers. Slaughter cows were $2 to $4 higher. Slaughter bulls were steady in a light test. The supply included a consignment of ranch raised Angus cows, some open with balance short bred heifers. Next week should include pairs from the same herd. A total of 485 cows and bulls sold with 48% going to packers.
