Newell sheep sales report

St. Onge Livestock Co., Ltd., Newell, S.D., reported receipts of 4,147 head Oct. 16, compared to 4,332 head last week and 5,657 head last year, according to the USDA-South Dakota Department of Agriculture Market News, Sioux Falls, S.D.

Compared to last week's sale, feeder lambs under 80 pounds sold mostly $1 to $3 lower. Feeder lambs weighing over 80 pounds sold mostly $1 to $5 higher. Slaughter ewes sold steady to firm. Buyer attendance was moderate with moderate demand. The supply consisted of approximately 5% slaughter ewes and bucks, 93% feeder lambs, and 2% replacement ewes.

Slaughter ewes: Good 2 to 3, fleshy, 58 head, 152 lbs., 14.25; 96 head, 169 lbs., 13.25.

Slaughter ewes: Utility 1 to 2, Medium fleshed, 65 head, 138 lbs., 12.25.

Feeder lambs: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 62 to 66 lbs., 104.50 to 108.50 (107.28); 70 to 74 lbs., 101.00 to 105.00 (103.76); 83 to 89 lbs., 95.50 to 97.75 (96.96); 65 head, 80 lbs., 102.00 ewe lambs; 93 to 95 lbs., 96.00 to 97.75 (97.04); 101 to 106 lbs., 90.25 to 92.00 (91.20); 111 to 115 lbs., 87.00 to 87.75 (87.56). Medium and large frame 2, 57 head, 61 lbs., 102.00; 98 head, 78 lbs., 99.75.

Replacement ewes: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, Whiteface, 93 head, 149 to 175 lbs., mixed 52.50 to 72.50; 69 head, 161 to 177 lbs., short term 30.00 to 38.00.
