Limited precipitation with cool nights seenWyoming Crop progress behind normal during the week ending Oct. 19, while range and pasture lacks moisture, according to the National Agricultural Statsitics Service, Wyoming Field Office, Oct. 20. Last week was cool with snow in some areas. High temperatures ranged from low 60s to high 70s. Low temperatures were in the low 10s to mid 20s. Topsoil moisture levels rated adequate or better decreased to 75 percent, 2 points below the previous week but 34 points up from the average. During last week an average of 4.5 days were suitable for fieldwork. The weather has slowed the crop progress, especially the dry beans. Dry beans remained windrowed at 93 percent with 72 percent combined, 16 points below 2007 and 14 points below the average. Eighty-eight percent of corn was in the dented stage with 59 percent mature and 3 percent harvested, 17 points below the previous year and 26 points below the average. Sugarbeets were harvested at 24 percent, 19 points below 2007 and 24 points below the 5-year average. Sixty-six percent of alfalfa has been cut for the third time, 30 points below last year and 22 points below the average. All livestock was rated at least 80 percent good or better. Range and pasture conditions were reported at 44 percent good or better, up 2 points from last week and 19 points above the average.
