Ft. Smith livestock sales report

Ft. Smith Livestock, Ft. Smith, Ark., reported receipts of 807 head Oct. 20, compared to 821 head last week and 935 head last year, according to the Arkansas Department of Agriculture-USDA Market News, Little Rock, Ark.

Compared to last week, slaughter cows were $2 higher. Slaughter bulls were $1 lower. Feeder steers and heifers were $3 to $5 higher. The supply included 400 feeder calves, 250 feeder yearlings, 39 replacement cows, 107 slaughter cows, 10 slaughter bulls, and 1 replacement bulls. The feeder supply consisted of about 40% English breed and English crosses, 30% exotic breed and exotic crosses, 30% Brahman and Brahman crosses, and 0% Holsteins and other dairy breeds. The feeder supply included about 55% steers and bulls with 45% heifers. Prices follow with weighted average price in parenthesis.

Slaughter cows: Breakers, 75 to 80% lean, 1000 to 1500 lbs., 47.00 to 51.50; high dressing, 52.00 to 56.50. Boners, 80 to 85% lean, 950 to 1400 lbs., 43.00 to 47.50; high dressing, 48.00 to 52.00; low dressing, 38.00 to 42.50. Lean, 85 to 90% lean, 900 to 1300 lbs., 50.00 to 54.50; high dressing, 55.00 to 59.00; low dressing, 45.00 to 49.50.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 to 2, 1000 to 2100 lbs., 55.00 to 57.50; high dressing, 60.00 to 64.00.

Feeder steers: Medium and large frame 1, 300 to 347 lbs., 120.00 to 134.00 (127.18); 375 to 395 lbs., 122.00 to 133.00 (125.80); 400 to 445 lbs., 112.00 to 128.00 (117.74); 450 to 490 lbs., 106.00 to 120.00 (113.28); 505 to 542 lbs., 100.00 to 110.00 (103.13); 553 to 575 lbs., 99.00 to 101.00 (99.83); 605 to 635 lbs., 90.00 to 96.00 (92.96); 650 to 670 lbs., 90.00 (90.00); 705 to 720 lbs., 82.00 to 90.00 (84.23).
