Dalhart livestock sales report

The Cattleman's Livestock Auction, Dalhart, Texas, reported receipts of 556 head Oct. 16, compared to 1,749 head last week and 2,585 head last year, according to the Texas Department of Agriculture Market News-USDA Market News, Amarillo, Texas.

Compared to last week, there was a very limited test due to heavy rains over the trade area. Few packages of reputation feeder steers and heifers under 500 pounds were steady. Slaughter cows and bulls were $1 to $2 higher. Trade and demand were moderate. The bulk of the supply were medium and large frame 1 to 2, 375- to 860-pound feeder steers and heifers. Slaughter cows made up 41% of the offering, slaughter bulls 5%, and feeders 54%. The feeder supply included 89% steers and 11% heifers, with nearly 62% of the run over 600 pounds.

Steers: Medium and large frame 1, package 295 lbs., pre-conditioned 133.00; package 373 lbs., 116.50, lot 389 lbs., pre-conditioned 128.00; lot 486 lbs., pre-conditioned 113.00; package 537 lbs., 101.00; package 626 lb. calves 93.00. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, package 272 lbs., 125.00; package 644 lb. calves 89.00; 700 to 800 lbs., 84.00 to 85.00; load 859 lbs., thin 90.25. Medium and large frame 2, few 600 to 700 lbs., 84.00 to 85.00; package 730 lbs., 80.00; package 893 lbs., 82.50.

Heifers: Medium and large frame 1, few 400 to 500 lbs., 89.00 to 90.00; package 682 lb. calves 80.00. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, package 463 lbs., 93.00; package 772 lbs., 80.00. Medium and large frame 2, few 600 to 700 lbs., 75.00 to 80.00.

Slaughter cows: Boners, 80 to 85% lean, package 1151 lbs., 52.00. Lean, 85 to 90% lean, 1000 to 1200 lbs., 49.50 to 50.50; low dressing, 43.50 to 45.00; 85 to 90% lean, 800 to 1000 lbs., 42.00 to 48.00.

Dairy slaughter cows: Breakers, 75 to 80% lean, 1500 to 1700 lbs., 51.50 to 53.50. Boners, 80 to 85% lean, 1300 to 1600 lbs., 49.00 to 53.50. Lean, 85 to 90% lean, 1100 to 1400 lbs., 47.50 to 51.50; low dressing, 42.00 to 46.25.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 to 2, 1600 to 1800 lbs., 63.50 to 64.00; low dressing, 1400 to 1600 lbs., 55.00 to 58.75.
