Colorado feeder cattle sales

The Colorado Auction Feeder Cattle Summary, Greeley, Colo, Oct. 17, reported receipts of 8,240 head Oct. 17, compared to 6,410 head last week and 17,150 head last year, according to the USDA-Colorado Department of Agriculture Market News, Greeley, Colo.

Compared to last week, yearling steers and heifers sold steady to $3 higher. Steer calves sold steady to $3 higher, instances of $5 to $8 higher on cattle under 500 pounds. Heifer calves sold $1 to $3 higher with $5 higher on cattle weighing under 500 pounds. Demand was good. As cattle futures rose slightly this week, buyer interest developed with heifer cattle the most attractive. Several new calf buyers were present at many of this sale. The supply was made up of 58% feeder steers, 42% feeder heifers, with about 46% of total feeder supply over 600 pounds.
