American Shorthorn Association annual meetings, banquet announcedThe 2008 Annual Meetings and Banquet to be Held during NAILE The American Shorthorn Association announces the 2008 Annual Meeting to be held during the North American International Livestock Exposition in Louisville, Ky., Nov. 14 and 15. The weekend will include ASA Standing Committee Meetings, Annual Meeting, and the Shorthorn Showdown and Awards Banquet. Beginning Nov. 14 at 7 p.m., in the West Hall rooms five, six, and seven, will be the first three of six Standing Committee Meetings followed by the next three committees. The committee meetings are to keep the ASA running on the right track and to make suggestions with the next years operations. Committee meetings are open to any ASA member to attend, with final discussion and decisions made by the Committee Chairs. ASA Standing Committees: --ShorthornPlus and Shorthorn Derivative Cattle Committee: Chairman: John Sullivan; Vice Chairman: Bob Duis. --Youth Activities, Leadership and Scholarship Committee Chairman: Matt Miller; Vice Chairman: Janet Leemon. --Commercial Marketing Committee: Chairman: Harold Bertz; Vice Chairman: Toby Jordan; --Senior Membership Show Committee: Chairman: Cory Schrag; Vice Chairman: Beau Steuart. --Promotion and Breed Image Committee: Chairman: Kris Vogel; Vice Chairman: Nancy Grathwohl. --Genetic Evaluation and Data Base Management Committee; Co Chairs: Todd and Janell Harman. The Annual Meeting will be held Nov. 15 at 9 a.m. The meeting will include suggestions and reports from the Standing Committee Chairs, a summary of the past year in the ASA office, and the election of three members to the ASA Board of Directors. ASA members who have announced intent to run for the board are Todd Harman, Inman, Kan.; Wes Stover, Binger, Okla.; John Hagie, Clarion, Iowa; and Derek Jungels, Kathryn, N.D. Contact the ASA for a complete biography on these members and why they would like to run for the ASA board. 99 voting delegates from 23 Districts will cast 2,197 votes in the election of the board members. The 2008 year will wrap-up with the Shorthorn Showdown Annual Awards Banquet Nov. 15, 6 p.m. With a new spin on the annual banquet, members can join teams and play a multiple choice trivia game with breaks in the game to make association announcements, give recognition to members, and announce annual awards.
