Conservation groups, Extension sponsor Oct. 23 range schoolColorado The Custer County Conservation District, Colorado State University Cooperative Extension, USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service , and Colorado Grazing Lands Conservation Initiative Committee are sponsoring a range management school Oct. 23, at the Rancher's Roost in Westcliffe. The school will run from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Robbie Baird LeValley, CSU CE, Dave Bradford, US Forest Service, John Murray, NRCS-retired, and Floyd Reed, USFS-retired, will be the instructors. Some of the topics to be covered include grass, forb, and shrub growth, time and timing of grazing, rangeland monitoring, grazing management, animal behavior, rangeland nutrition, and tying it all together in a grazing plan. The registration fee for the one-day workshop is $15 per person or $25 per couple. This includes lunch and a range resource book which will contain all the presentation material, including pertinent range science and monitoring information. Anyone interested in attending is encouraged to register by Oct. 14. Contact the CCCD or the Silver Cliff NRCS office at 719-783-2481. Make checks payable to the "Extension Activities Fund" and mail it to CCCD, P.O. 756, Westcliffe, CO 81252.
