Wyobraska cattle sales reportThe combined sales volume of Wyoming, western Nebraska, and western North and South Dakota auctions for the week ending Oct. 11, totaled 11,010 head, compared to 4,000 head last week and 11,400 head last year, according to the USDA-Wyoming Department of Agriculture Market News, Torrington, Wyo. Compared to last week at Wyoming auctions, steer and heifer calves sold steady to $8 lower, mostly $6 to $8 lower. Yearlings were $3 to $6 lower, with some instances of $8 to $10 lower, except Riverton was steady with instances of $1 to $3 higher. Direct trading was slow to moderate. Demand was moderate to light. Sellers were hesitant to trade cattle and calves at current declining market price levels this week. Some sellers will continue to take cattle to sale barns in hopes of higher price than those levels that are being offered in the country. Buyer inquiry was light to moderate. Offerings were light to moderate. Unless otherwise noted direct prices are current FOB with a 2 to 3% shrink or equivalent, and with a 5 to 10 cent slide on calves and 3 to 6 cent slide on yearlings from base weight. Steers made up approximately 56% of the supply, heifers 44%, with 42% of the offerings over 600 pounds. Direct sales accounted for 590 head of the total receipts.
