Texas Shrimp Marketing Program looking for new advisory board members

The Texas Shrimp Marketing Program Advisory Board is now accepting applications for new board members.

The board assists the Texas Department of Agriculture in implementing the Texas Shrimp Marketing Assistance Program and in expending of funds appropriated for the program. The board also assesses the Texas shrimp industry and develops recommendations for Agriculture Commissioner Todd Staples to promote and expand the industry.

"Working together with this board, we can continue to raise awareness of this dynamic industry and keep it strong," Commissioner Staples said. "When you want the best, you want shrimp from Texas. This board helps us get this message out."

The Texas Shrimp Marketing Program Advisory Board meets annually and is comprised of:

--Two owners of commercial bay shrimp boats;

--Two owners of commercial gulf shrimp boats;

--One member of the Texas shrimp aquaculture industry;

--One retail fish dealer;

--One wholesale fish dealer;

--One person employed by an institution of higher education as a researcher or instructor specializing in the area of food science, particularly seafood;

--One member of the seafood restaurant industry; and

--One public representative.

Board member applications are available through the TDA website at www.tda.state.tx.us or by contacting Alyssa Herold at 512-463-8353 or alyssa.herold@tda.state.tx.us. The deadline for submissions is Nov. 3.
