State gets much needed moisture

Colorado

Most of Colorado received some much needed moisture during the week ending Oct. 12 and temperatures were normal for this time of year, until the weekend when many areas experienced low temperatures near freezing, according to the National Agricultural Statistics Service, Colorado Field Office, Oct. 14.

These conditions allowed producers 5.9 days suitable for field operations.

Spring wheat harvest was complete by week's end. Winter wheat was 97 percent seeded and 74 percent emerged with the crop in mostly good condition.

The corn crop was 88 percent mature and 34 percent harvested with the crop in mostly fair to good condition. Ninety-two percent of the corn silage crop has been harvested. Sorghum was 88 percent mature and 28 percent harvested with the crop in mostly fair to poor condition. The dry bean crop was 90 percent cut, 71 percent harvested, and in mostly fair to good condition for the week.

Dry onions were 90 percent harvested and the majority of the crop that is yet to be harvested is in good condition. Sugarbeets were 28 percent harvested and in mostly good condition. The sunflower crop is 40 percent harvested and rated in mostly fair to excellent condition. Summer potatoes are 95 percent harvested while fall potatoes were 80 percent by week's end. The fall potato crop is in mostly good condition.

Pasture and range conditions rated in mostly fair to good condition. Third cutting alfalfa was 98 percent complete while fourth cutting was 36 percent harvested. The crop was rated in mostly fair to good condition. Death losses for cattle and sheep were rated just below average. Stored feed supplies were rated just above average for this time of year.
