Sioux Falls sheep sales

The Sioux Falls sheep auction, Sioux Falls, S.D., reported receipts of 1,066 head of sheep and goats, compared to 432 head last week and 725 head last year, according to the USDA-South Dakota Department of Agriculture Market News Service, Sioux Falls, S.D.

Compared to last week, slaughter lambs sold steady to weak. Due to extremely light numbers of slaughter ewes last week a trend was not possible. Feeder lambs, lacking comparable sales sold steady to weak on 90- to 113-pound feeders. Other weights were not compared. Receipts included about 42% slaughter lambs, 17% slaughter ewes, 28% feeder lambs and the balance was bucks and miscellaneous sheep. Buyer attendance was light with moderate demand.

Slaughter lambs: Shorn Choice and Prime 2 to 3, 136 to 141 lbs., 97.00. Wooled, Choice and Prime 2 to 3, 46 head, 123 lbs., 93.00; 136 to 141 lbs., 93.50 to 95.50 (93.97). Wooled, Choice and Prime 3 to 4, 5 head, 163 lbs., 88.50. Wooled, Choice 2 to 3, 31 head, 127 lbs., 91.00 to 91.25 (91.06).

Slaughter ewes: Good 2 to 3, fleshy, 172 to 174 lbs., 0.00 to 22.00 (20.95). Good 3 to 4, fleshy, 10 head, 213 lbs., 25.50. Utility 1 to 2, Medium flesh, 132 to 149 lbs., 10.50 to 15.50 (14.29). Cull 1, thin, 17 head, 118 to 128 lbs., 5.00 to 7.00 (6.15).

Feeder lambs: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 90 to 99 lbs., 90.00 to 92.50 (90.89); 112 to 113 lbs., 91.50 to 92.00 (91.81). Medium and large frame 2, 37 head, 76 lbs., 85.00; 49 head, 89 lbs., 76.00; 102 to 103 lbs., 82.50 to 85.00 (83.94).

Slaughter kids: Selection 1, 5 head, 55 lbs., 95.00. Selection 1 to 2, 37 head, 42 lbs., 92.00; 10 head, 55 lbs., 88.50. Selection 2 to 3, 5 head, 44 lbs., 60.00.

Slaughter nannies: Selection 1 to 2, 63 head, 111 lbs., 45.00.

Slaughter bucks/billies: Selection 1 to 2, 14 head, 67 lbs., 85.00.
