Shane Townsend joins USW

U.S. Wheat Associates announces the appointment of Shane Townsend as Trade Policy Analyst at the Arlington, Va., headquarters. Townsend will report to USW Director of Policy Rebecca Bratter and contribute to the analysis of such policy issues as tariff and non-tariff trade barriers, food aid, credit programs, biotechnology and trade with sanctioned countries.

Most recently, Townsend worked at U.S. Department of Agriculture's Foreign Agricultural Service, Washington, D.C., in program monitoring and evaluation. Prior to joining FAS, he was an organizational development consultant, a relief worker following Sept. 11, 2001, and Hurricane Katrina and a Peace Corps volunteer working with indigenous coffee growers in Bolivia.

"The scope of international trade policy and its impact on market development is becoming more complex every day," Bratter said. "We are very pleased that in this position Shane will put such excellent international experience to work for U.S. wheat producers."

U.S. Wheat Associates is the industry's market development organization working in 90 countries on behalf of America's wheat producers. The activities of U.S. Wheat Associates are made possible by producer checkoff dollars managed by 18 state wheat commissions and through cost-share funding provided by FAS. For more information, visit www.uswheat.org or contact your state wheat commission.
