Range, pastures in mostly fair to good conditionNew Mexico Farmers were continuing to harvesting corn, cutting and baling alfalfa during the week ending Oct. 14, according to the National Agricultural Statistics Service, New Mexico Field Office, Oct. 14. Alfalfa was mostly good with sixth cutting 31 percent complete. Cotton was mostly good with 80 percent of bolls opening and 5 percent harvested. Corn was mostly good to excellent with 97 percent mature and 18 percent grain harvested. Irrigated sorghum was mostly good with 94 percent coloring and 35 percent mature. Dry sorghum was mostly fair with 67 percent coloring and 20 percent mature. Chiles were mostly good with 32 percent of the red harvest completed. Peanuts were mostly fair with 40 percent harvested. Pecans were mostly good. Ranchers are gathering, weaning, and selling calves. Cattle were mostly good. Sheep were mostly good to fair. Range and pastures were mostly fair to good. There were 6.4 days suitable for fieldwork. Topsoil moisture was 16 percent very short, 38 percent short and 46 percent adequate.
