Prescribed Burning Workshop to be offered in Hill City

Kansas

Burning maintenance has been a notable part of Conservation Reserve Program contracts. K-State Research and Extension, Graham and Trego Counties, will be hosting a Western Kansas Cooperative Burn School Nov. 3. The workshop will be held at the 4-H Building in Hill City with registration beginning at 8:30 a.m., and will conclude at 3:30 p.m.

Requirements and the positives of the CRP maintenance practice will be presented by USDA personnel and K-State Specialist. Topics to be presented will be burn considerations, local regulations, terminology and fire behavior, using burn contractors, planning and conducting a burn, and equipment use for burns.

The school is open to the public for better understanding of prescribed burning of CRP and rangeland acres. A $10 fee will cover the cost of materials and presentations. Lunch is provided by Smokey Hill Watershed Districts and Citizens State Bank of Morland, Hill City and WaKeeney.

Pre-registration is requested by Oct. 30 for meal count. To register for the school or to receive additional information, please call the Trego County Extension Office at 785-743-6361.
