Pratt livestock sales report

Pratt Livestock Sales Inc., Pratt, Kan., reported receipts of 426 head, Oct. 9, compared to 1,404 head, last week and 2,334 head, last year, according to the USDA-Kansas Department of Agriculture Market News, Dodge City, Kan.

Compared with last week, steers and heifers, all weights, were not enough for a market test with much lower undertones noted. Slaughter cows were $2 to $4 lower, slaughter bulls were steady to $4 lower. Trade and demand were light. Receipts included 43% over 600 pounds, 29% under 600 pounds and 28% slaughter cows and bulls. The feeder supply consisted of 49% steers and 52% heifers.

Feeder steers: Medium and large frame 1, fleshy, 16 head, 704 lbs., 94.00; full 7 head, 813 lbs., 90.00. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 5 head, 569 lbs., 94.00. Medium and large frame 2, fleshy, 9 head, 564 lbs., 84.00; 12 head, 689 lbs., 78.00; 11 head, 725 lbs., 70.00. Large frame 2, 6 head, 1026 lbs., 79.00.

Feeder heifers: Medium and large frame 1, 5 head, 509 lbs., 95.00; 5 head, 840 lbs., 86.50. Fleshy, 5 head, 598 lbs., 81.00. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 350 to 400 lbs., 96.00 to 98.00 (97.59). Fleshy, 450 to 500 lbs., 81.00 to 85.00 (82.48); 600 to 650 lbs., 80.00; 9 head, 724 lbs., 75.00; 16 head, 1047 lbs., 80.50. Medium and large frame 2, fleshy, 22 head, 574 lbs., 75.00.

Baby calves: Mixed steers and bulls, per head, individual 140 lbs., 160.00; individual 180 lbs., 150.00. Heifers, per head, individual 120 lbs., 140.00.

Feeder cows: Heiferettes, 20 head, 50.00 to 66.00 (56.50).

Bred cows: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 8 head, 846 lbs., young, 2nd trimester, 615.00; 4 head, 1278 lbs., middle-aged, 2nd trimester, 655.00.

Slaughter cows: Breakers, 75 to 80% lean, individual 55.00. Boners, 80 to 85% lean, 48.50 to 53.00; low dressing, 44.50 to 47.00. Lean, 85 to 90% lean, 42.50 to 49.50; individual 53.50; low dressing, 33.00 to 41.50.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 to 2, 62.00 to 62.50; low dressing, 48.00 to 58.00.
