Newell sheep sales report

St. Onge Livestock Co., Ltd., Newell, S.D., reported receipts of 4,332 head Oct. 9, compared to 3,008 head last week and 3,854 head last year, according to the USDA-South Dakota Department of Agriculture Market News, Sioux Falls, S.D.

Compared to last week's sale feeder lambs over 80 pounds sold steady to $2 lower and lambs weighing under 80 pounds sold steady to $2 higher. Good and Utility slaughter ewes sold $2 to $3 lower, Cull slaughter ewes sold $2 to $3 higher. Buyer attendance was moderate with moderate demand. The supply consisted of 19% slaughter ewes, 79% feeder lambs, and 2% replacement ewes.

Slaughter lambs: Wooled, Good 1 to 2, 112 to 120 lbs., 83.75 to 85.00 (84.53). Good 2 to 3, fleshy, 224 head, 172 lbs., 13.00.

Slaughter ewes: Utility 1 to 2, medium fleshed, 135 to 150 lbs., 11.25 to 12.50 (12.09). Cull 1 to 2, thin, 20 head, 167 lbs., 9.25; 27 head, 203 lbs., 10.00.

Feeder lambs: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 61 to 67 lbs., 102.50 to 107.50 (105.77); 466 head, 61 lbs., 109.50 ewe lambs; 70 to 76 lbs., 105.00 to 109.00 (106.28); 55 head, 82 lbs., 100.00; 91 to 98 lbs., 90.25 to 96.25 (92.80); 100 to 107 lbs., 89.00 to 92.00 (90.30). Medium and large frame 2, 58 head, 48 lbs., 93.00; 26 head, 58 lbs., 101.00; 72 to 77 lbs., 98.75 to 99.00 (98.81); 81 to 88 lbs., 92.00 to 94.00 (92.87).

Replacement ewes: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, Whiteface, 132 head, 172 lbs., 2 to 4 years old, 102.50; 347 head, 155 to 170 lbs., solid short term 42.00 to 46.00.
