Missouri Corn announces new leadership

Missouri

As Missouri's corn harvest swings into high gear, the Missouri Corn Merchandising Council and the Missouri Corn Growers Association kickoff the new fiscal year with new leadership and several new board members.

The election of the MCMC officer team took place during the Council's annual meeting held at the Lake of the Ozarks. The grower-leaders voted and the 2008-09 MCMC officers are:

Chairman, Keith Witt, Warrenton, Mo., District 6;

Vice Chairman, Rob Korff, Norborne, Mo., District 2;

Treasurer, Kerry Rose, Liberal, Mo., District 4;

Secretary, Billy Thiel, Marshall, Mo., District 5.

Also elected in August, the 2008-09 MCGA officers are:

President, Mike Geske, Matthews, Mo., District 7;

Vice President, Kenny McNamar, Gorin, Mo., District 3;

Secretary/Treasurer, Charles Krueger, Kahoka, Mo., District 3.

Morris Heitman of Mound City, Mo.; Gary Porter of Mercer, Mo.; and Greg Schneider of Warrenton, Mo., were elected to the Missouri Corn board by growers in their districts. The new grower-leaders replace retiring board members who have served the maximum term of nine years. Heitman represents corn growers from District 1 and replaces B.J. Bailey of Oregon, Mo. Porter will replace John Quinn of Chillicothe, Mo., representing growers in District 2. Schneider fills the District 6 position, replacing Jayne Glosemeyer, retiring MCMC chairwoman and farmer from Marthasville, Mo.

Several Missouri corn grower-leaders have also been appointed to serve on National Corn Growers Association Action Teams and Committees. Mike Geske will preside as the incoming chairman of the NCGA Public Policy Action Team and Rob Korff has been named the new chairman of the NCGA Biotech Working Group. Missouri is the only state with two chairmen leading national committees. Additionally, Kenny McNamar has been reappointed to the Research and Business Development Action Team, Billy Thiel will continue to represent Missouri on the Ethanol Committee and Paul Gross of Corder, Mo., has been appointed to a three-year term on the Mycotoxin Task Force.

Representing Missouri corn farmers on U.S. Grains Council Action Teams are Jim Stuever of Dexter, Mo., Biotech Programs and B.J. Bailey of Oregon, Mo., Membership and Communication. Keith Witt will also serve on the Rest of the World Programs Action Team.

The MCMC board of directors is comprised of 14 farmers elected from across the state. This volunteer producer board was formed in 1984 through a half-cent per bushel corn checkoff and is dedicated to market development, research and education. MCMC's sister organization, MCGA, is a grassroots organization of nearly 1,500 farmer-members dedicated to increasing the profitability of corn production through sound policies, continued market development and a strong involvement in the political process.
