McAlester livestock auction report

The McAlester Union Livestock Market, McAlester, Okla., reported receipts of 1,985 head Oct. 15, compared to 1,635 head last week and 1,750 head last year, according to the Oklahoma Department of Agriculture-USDA Market News, Oklahoma City, Okla.

Compared to last week, stocker and feeder cattle were steady to $3 lower with 400- to 600-pound cattle taking the biggest hit. There was a good attendance of buyers and moderate to active trade. Concerns over global economic conditions drove markets. Cattle were in thin to fleshy condition with few attractive cattle on the yards. Receipts included 51% steers, 37% heifers with 23% over 600 pounds. Slaughter cows and bulls mostly steady to $1 lower. Weigh-ups mostly full. A total of 345 cows sold with 68% to packers.

Lean, 61 head, 85 to 90% lean, 975 to 1300 lbs., 41.50 to 45.50; high dressing, 47.00 to 50.50; low dressing, 37.50 to 41.50. Light, 56 head, 85 to 90% lean, 700 to 1050 lbs., 37.50 to 41.00; high dressing, 42.00 to 46.00; low dressing, 31.50 to 36.00.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 to 2, 11 head, 1485 to 1900 lbs., 60.50 to 63.00; low dressing, 56.00 to 59.50.

Replacement cows: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, heifer, 1175 lbs., 6 months bred, high, 950.00; 2 to 7 years old, 1040 to 1245 lbs., 3 to 7 months bred, average, 670.00 to 750.00.
